Ex-Rephlex fella Global Goon seems to be liberally applying the elbow grease this year, with mini-LP 'Bessemer Cocktail' hot on the heals of his Audio Dregs released 'Family Glue'. Always a refreshing antidote to the po-faced seriousness that pervades certain quarters of the electronic cabal, Global Goon has again produced a formidable slice of gracefultronica that is both immediately welcoming as well as possessing a very real sense of longevity. 'Bessemer Cocktail' seems to have been created with jackin' robots in mind, opening accordingly with the tweaked electropop and sunny disposition of 'Doesn't Sound Like Me'. Sticking to this theme, 'Great Strong Sword' revs up a kinetic 80's inspired beat with well greased bloops and beeps, 'Metal Cheetah' is a synth-heavy rollercoaster that tops out at 141bpm, whilst 'Screaming Skull' proves the Goon isn't a one trick pony as a palpable brooding malice is conveyed through melancholy key changes, all housed behind a beat lacquered veneer. Loverly. (boomkat)
