The new star in the Rephlex cosmos drops his much anticpated follow up to the 'Katabatic EP' with the fourteen track 'Shimmering Hour' album. In the absence of any new material from Aphex this album should go a long way to satisfy many electronica nuts with it's uncannily similar fusion of extreme beat complexities, emotive melodies and florid harmonics. The tracks thankfully aren't all in-your-face snare-rush attacks though, taking a broader stance with a range of tempos and a drum palettes coloured by super modified synthlines with the touch of an intensely skilled programmer. For Aphex, Mike Paradinas, Ovuca or Squarepusher fanatics this is as good as it gets. (boomkat)
